Leather Con Badge: Ashe

This is the last badge I made at Anthrocon 2009. It's a rendering in leather of a badge that the customer had done several years ago. I finished this one in about an hour and a half, which was about the quickest of all of them, but I think I was finally getting in the groove. I didn't do a lot of interior detail; most of it was rendered with paint.

That isn't a weird hat he's wearing, by the way; it's a cloud behind his head.

I haven't been doing leatherwork very long, but I seem to have a talent for it. My leather con badges are renderings of your art on a 3.5" x 4.5" piece of vegetable tanned leather, or we can provide the image based on existing work or your description. I trace the image, carve it into the leather with a swivel knife, contour the cuts with modeling tools, and paint the image with acrylic paints. All pieces are sealed with a spray acrylic to protect them from the elements, and I add grommets to the corners so it can be hung around the neck. Moving forward, I'll be looking into ways to clip the badges to clothing.

I also make sketchbook covers, again using vegetable tanned leather, and I can use a variety of dye effects, carving, and painting to make a cover that is uniquely yours. I can use a variety of hardware for closures, including snaps, button studs, trigger snaps, halter snaps, swing latches, and turn locks. Just let me know what you're looking for, and we can make it happen together.
